This month’s free piece in D major focuses on maintaining the clarity of melody over a moving bass line, bring out the independent voices, and some 3:2 rhythms. I hope you enjoy playing it…or at least listening to it.

Chamber Music Press will be publishing some more of my pieces in the coming weeks.
Two short pieces, “The Temporary Waltz” and “Old Photos” will be paired together in one publication, and will be available soon.

A couple books I am reading now…
We visited Pittsburgh last month, so a usual stop for us is the Andy Warhol Museum. I picked up Bob Colacello's Holy Terror - Andy Warhol Close Up. This is a fascinating biography that gives the reader a peak behind the curtain of the art and lifestyle of America's most famous artist. Colacello was the editor of Warhol's Interview Magazine as well as a main figure at all four of Warhol's NYC Factory studios.
James Clear's Atomic Habits is a inspiring way to get stuff done and to create positive habits in your life and work. Clear, to the point, and motivational. I am trying to implement many strategies from the book in my own work.
The music and playing of Gerard Cousins is new to me. He is the total package…composer, arranger, guitarist. This record features original compositions, a few of which are homages to Phillip Glass, John McLaughlin, and Steve Reich. This is a killer record.
I've had Xianji Liu's album Chinese Romance on repeat lately. This is a beautiful record of simple, sweet melodies, impeccably performed.
Being a fan of John Martyn, how I never heard his first record before is beyond me. This is just brilliant. No surprise there…
